Group Experiment

For our experiment, each of our group members made a windmill. The wooden stick part of the windmill represents the existing buildings within Wellington and the windmill part represents the growth of the buildings after redevelopment. The whole windmill itself represents the fact that we want turn Wellington into a more fun and recreational city.

Work

I took some pictures of the windmill I made for our group project, of which I kept the material clear to show the qualities of something pure and transparent to grow/connect the buildings together (the building represented by the wooden stick).

For this project up until the first Crit I have and helped put the presentation together and read further through the work group we chose to crit, Qualia, so I could talk about them when we presented.

Group Philosophy - Refined

Philosophy

Urban Jungle (Gym) believes that Wellington is a friendly, close knit, expressive, community orientated city laced with parks and reserves.

Wellington currently supports and nurtures many digital based companies such as Weta Digital, Sidhe interactive, Ponoko, Trade me, Xero and Resn.

We wish to continue to maintain and grow this strong culture to draw people and companies to Wellington that are expressive, talented, open minded, and willing to progress together with Wellington’s physical and digital future.

As digital technologies advance, Wellintonians will work remotely, meet virtually and businesses will no longer require the permanent physical spaces as we see today.

To do this Urban Jungle Gym plans to conserve and enhance the key qualities of Wellington by developing a recreational area in the current CBD.

We want to develop these abandoned buildings into an organic free-flowing environment that actively recycles the old buildings and incorporates derivatives of natural into exciting new experiences.

Group Responsibilities

Our areas of responsibility:

Justin – Physical Modeling/Photography
Rowan – Physical Modeling/Photography
Jamie – 3D Modelling
Xanthe – Animation
Cornelia - Website
Ken – Photography / Video
Jason -Physical Modeling

Subject to change.

Explanation

Corporate businesses will be able to work from home via the use of a highly developed form of Augmented Reality. When corporate businesses take on a new form in the digital world, the physical buildings will remain. Most of these buildings will still be quite valuable due to the way that they have been designed to stand up against earthquakes. Rather than taking them down, we propose that we evolve them into a building which can be used for recreational purposes. The current version of these buildings would not be ideal for such purposes since they have a restrictive flow from space to space. Urban Jungle Gym wants to open up the restrictive spaces by creating connective pathways between buildings and floors which would transform the business buildings into an interconnected network with better flow.

Group Philosophy

Urban Jungle Gym aims to enhance the quality of life in Wellington by introducing a more recreational atmosphere and to reduce the physical presence of large businesses within the central city.

This will accentuate the key qualities that draw and keep people in Wellington. We believe these qualities are: Friendly atmosphere
Close-knit
Intergrated nature
